What is PDF metadata?

Information about the document stored right in the file: the title, author, subject, keywords, the application it was created in, and the creation and modification dates. Every PDF viewer shows it in the document properties.

Why edit a PDF’s title?

Search engines like Google use the title from the metadata in search results, and PDF viewers may show it in the window’s title bar. A descriptive title matters most for PDFs published on the web.

How do I remove the author’s name from a PDF?

In the document properties, clear the Author field (or click Clear all), save the description and download the PDF. The author disappears from both the document info and the XMP metadata.

Does anything else change?

The page content stays the same. However, the file is saved again when you download it, so any digital signatures in it will no longer be valid – the editor warns you about this in advance.

Who can see my document?

Only you and anyone you send the link to. The document is edited in your browser and only ever reaches our server encrypted. The copy deletes itself one hour after your last edit. Learn more in our privacy policy.
