Frequently asked questions
Why did the font change on the line I edited?
The editor types in the document’s original font if it’s embedded in the PDF and has all the characters you need. But PDFs often contain only the characters that appear in the document – if you type a new one (say, “Q” or “ñ”), the editor switches to the most similar font with the same dimensions and lets you know. It does the same for fonts that aren’t embedded in the PDF. With common fonts, the difference is barely noticeable.
Can I edit text in a scanned PDF?
Yes, once the text is recognized: in the ⋯ menu, choose Recognize text (OCR). Then you edit it just like in a regular PDF – the new text is drawn over the scan on a paper-colored background. You can also cover details with the Whiteout tool and type new text over them with the Text tool.
How do I replace a word throughout the document?
Press Ctrl+F (on a Mac ⌘+F), type the word you’re looking for and its replacement. You can replace matches one by one or all at once.
Does the original text stay in the file?
No. The edited lines are removed from the page content. If that isn’t possible with an unusual font, the editor lets you know and covers the original text instead.
Who can see my document?
Only you and anyone you send the link to. The document is edited in your browser and only ever reaches our server encrypted. The copy deletes itself one hour after your last edit. Learn more in our privacy policy.
