Frequently asked questions
Is this kind of signature legally valid?
It’s a visual signature – the same as scanning a signed sheet of paper. It’s often used for everyday paperwork (orders, confirmations, internal documents). It isn’t, however, a certificate-based electronic signature under the EU eIDAS regulation, which authorities usually require. You can create one with your own certificate – see “Digitally sign PDF”.
Can I sign a PDF on my phone?
Yes. The editor works in the browser on phones and tablets, and you draw your signature with your finger.
Is my signature stored anywhere?
Only if you check “Remember signature in this browser” – then it stays in your browser’s storage on this device. The signature isn’t stored on the server separately.
How do I add a date to my signature?
Click the arrow next to the Text tool, choose “Today’s date” and click next to your signature.
Who can see my document?
Only you and anyone you send the link to. The document is edited in your browser and only ever reaches our server encrypted. The copy deletes itself one hour after your last edit. Learn more in our privacy policy.
